What is Amethyst
A member of the Quartz Family of gemstones having a Silicon Dioxide base, the purple of Amethyst comes from the additional minerals of Iron, Manganese and/or Aluminum included in it's composition. Some Amethyst- if you find some with very even, deep purple color, may be subjected to irradiation. That is, other clear Quartz specimens are heat treated to turn them Purple. The hardness of Amethyst is around 7 on the Mohs scale and so it is used for jewelry and cut for sparkle.
It is called the "sobriety stone" and said to enliven the mind, but this is how it does it. The emotions when not focused cause swings of thought and confusion. The properties of Amethyst, with it's added minerals and purple vibration frequency, fine tune the emotions/feelings and make them usable and easily directed.
